Going into 2020, Duende! had finished what amassed to a double album, while their collaboration with Bauhaus and Love and Rockets bassist, David J. Haskins continued to be a record of interest.
“Oracle of the Horizontal is an unexpected pleasure in the purest sense of the work: few could have predicted that the bass player from Bauhaus would sound this good playing with an obscure Detroit Band, because hardly anyone would have thought up the combination in the first place. But that just makes its auspicious convergence of first-wave English goth and Motor City rock muscle all the more satisfying.”

As performances were postponed, tours rescheduled and the realization that the world was slowing grinding to a halt, the band decided to release “X” (the previously mentioned double album) on what would have been Record Store Day in April of 2020, along with a companion playlist of live favorites that spanned the previous ten years of recorded output called “How the Way Out Was Won”.
And then they waited. An outdoor jam and few masked-up recording sessions in the basement sprinkled throughout the year began to yield new songs:
“Waited”, though not intentionally referring to the past year of living in quarantine, does emotionally touch the sentiment of separation of longtime bandmates and their community of fans and friends. An accompanying video, shot by William Hynde, will be released late spring/early summer. The tracks were recorded by singer and guitarist, Jeff Howitt and mixed in Sudbury, Ontario by Dany Laj.
Though this is a digital release, Duende! chose to make it single, in the class sense by also releasing a “B Side”, which is a cover of an Electric Lions song, “Killing Cowboys”. The song was recorded and mixed by Tony Ross at Ghostlight in Hamtramck, Michigan during the event “A Celebration for Rabeah Lteif” on March 18, 2017.
The band plans of doing seasonal releases throughout 2021, with each single featuring a different producer
